Every company on a ranked list is verified against the license registry for its market: the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection registry in New York, and the Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor registry in Boston. We confirm the license is active on the day the page publishes, not the day we researched it.
We exclude companies with lapsed, suspended, or unverifiable licenses; marketplaces and lead brokers that do not do the work themselves; and anyone who asks to pay for a spot. Founder-affiliated companies are disclosed and held to the exact same criteria as everyone else.
