Epoxy Floor Prep and Process

If you take one idea from this whole site, take this one: prep is most of what you are paying for, and it is all of what decides whether the floor is still down in ten years. I came to coatings from twenty years of hardwood, and the thing that surprised me was how little the resin matters next to the concrete work underneath it. Two garages can get the exact same kit and the same color, and one lasts a decade while the other lifts at the tire tracks in a summer. The difference is never the bucket. It is the grind, the moisture reading, and the film thickness nobody put on the quote.
This section of the Learning Center is the process corner, and it is written so you can read a bid and know whether it describes a floor or a hope. Grinding to a real concrete surface profile is the only prep I accept on a garage, and the pages here explain why acid etching, the cheap shortcut, is the quiet reason so many DIY floors peel. The moisture test is the other half: a slab pushing water vapor upward fails any coating regardless of who installs it, and there is a right way and a wrong way to find out before you commit.
Thickness gets its own page because it is the single spec that predicts lifespan better than any brand name, and almost no quote states it. And because timing trips up new construction, there is a page on how long to wait after a pour before you coat, and what a curing compound does to your bond if the finisher sprayed one.
None of this is here to sell you a service. I do not take the work anymore. It is here so that when someone hands you a number, you can ask the four questions that separate a floor that lasts from one that does not, and recognize the answer that should worry you.
